“This is a story. It’s also a story-world, and I’m not sure the two are so different. It’s a story about a world which, for simplicity’s sake, consists of two islands, Otya and Wind-Otya, and their inhabitants. It is a story about the Islands in the same way that Wikipedia is a story about our own world, or that Ursula K. Le Guin’s novel Always Coming Home is a story about the far-future California in which it is set. Mostly, this is an Always Coming Home knockoff, because I always wanted to do an Always Coming Home knockoff.”
