Project proposals will not be one size fits all. Each student will tackle your project in a distinct way. Your only specific instruction is to AMAZE US. Here, you’ll provide a sketch of what you plan to do. This should include an introduction to the topics/themes your story will explore, the approach you plan to take, and the media/platforms/technologies you plan to use. Write this proposal as if you are pitching it to a funding committee/publisher and be sure to include the sections specified below.
Proposal Elements
Abstract:
- Write a one paragraph summary of the project, outlining key themes, your approach, target audiences, and the media/platforms/technologies you plan to use.
- Articulate the core question/perspective that you propose to explore and attempt to answer/address.
History and Rationale:
- Share what you have learned about the history of your topic and themes from your research to date. Draw from your bibliography listed below.
- Explain what you propose to share with your audience. What do you want your audience to learn and experience from your digital story?
Approach:
- Identify the expertise you bring to this project.
- Identify what skills/platforms you will need to learn and your plan for learning them (note: don’t take on more than you can handle!).
Story Home Page:
What will you include on your story’s home page(s) (i.e., introduction, footnotes, related media, credits, etc.). List elements here. Note: this home page will be different from the homepage for your website. Think of this as the home page for your story. This webpage or pages would be part of your own website, so you won’t need a separate domain. You might, though, consider creating a subdomain (basically, a website within a website). You can learn more about creating subdomains on Reclaim here.
Timeline:
Given our short semester, establish weekly benchmarks for your project, including the following elements: platform selection, wireframing*, drafting text*, developing images and videos, peer review,* etc. [* these items are all required as part of our class.]
Bibliography:
List at least two sources you have consulted as you plan for your project: say, at least one inspirational work and one critical piece. Briefly annotate each source to include a short summary and identify its significance for your project.
